Tomorrow is the official release date for my single ‘Dream’ - and I wanted to give some insight into the video, the people involved, and the reason that none of you will be actually seeing me in the video….
The People Involved
Tommy Nguyen of Dagger Studios directed, produced, and edited this music video. He put in an insane amount of time coordinating with me and the other artists involved and was always the happiest person in the room. He is the reason this video exists and I am forever grateful to have been able to meet and work with such an incredible person.
Sean Priddle is the sculptor in the video. He is an INSANE talent. When we first got to his house to start filming him, we were awed by his space. His home studio is surrounded by a collectors dream of framed autographed pictures of every celebrity you can imagine has an array of 70’s vintage collectable figures behind glass cases….COOLEST BASEMENT EVER!
Laura Herrera is the painter in the video. She was referred by another local musician and as soon as I saw her work I knew I wanted her in the video! She uses such unique textures and mediums in her process (nail polish - waa! ) that it made it super fun and interesting to witness her create her piece. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Laura-Herrera-Art/294964540562183
Sarah Dolan is the dancer in the video. Sarah runs a local dancer studio called ‘O2 Dance Company’ in Calgary and has done choreographing work for ‘so you think you can dance’; so obviously we knew we were in good hands….Her company will be putting on a show Next weekend called ‘Answers’ - you can find all the details on their website www.o2dance.com
The Video Concept
I’ll start off by saying that this video is everything I could have hoped it would be. It beautifully captures the creation process of three independent artists as they each created an original piece inspired by my song. There are really no words to describe what its like to witness someone create something beautiful based on something that YOU created…Mind Blowing (truly).
There was more than one occasion where tears came to my eyes as I witnessed the determination, talent and creativity that poured out of these three individuals. I am forever grateful for the experience that they shared and can not wait to share that with you!
Umm, Your Not In The Video?
There was debate between me and…everyone about my part in the video. There is the obvious argument that since its my music video I should be in it…but I really wanted this video to be about the content. The song that I wrote is about following what makes you come alive despite the odds…and the artists we found are all living examples of that.
We had planned for me to be in the video interacting with the artists; since I was there for the majority of filming. But fitting three in depth processes into a 3:18 video is difficult…and ultimately I was cut out in order to protect the integrity of the processes we were showcasing.
At that point there was discussion about alternative ways for me to be featured in the video. But everything we had filmed was so authentic and original. These artists were REALLY creating something; and it was important for me to keep that part of the video consistent.
I really want this video to be about the message and the lyrics; and so I couldn’t be happier with the end result and how we were able to make that message come to life by highlighting these amazing artists.
I hope you all enjoy it and can find the courage to follow your own paths; wherever they may lead!
